"Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak, and to sit down and listen."
- Winston Churchill
Will I have to speak? Absolutely not! You're welcome to simply sit back, relax and see what a meeting is like. Some guests choose to introduce themselves or even have a go at our fun impromptu speaking session, but there's never any pressure.
What does it cost? Your first few visits are completely free, so you can decide if Toastmasters is right for you. If you choose to join, we'll explain the membership fees, which cover educational resources and club membership.
What should I wear? Whatever you'd normally wear to work, a café or dinner with friends is perfectly fine. Most members dress in smart casual clothing, but there's no strict dress code.
I'm terrified of public speaking. Am I in the right place? Believe it or not, you're exactly the sort of person Toastmasters was designed for. Almost everyone who joins is nervous at first. Our meetings are supportive, encouraging and judgement-free, and you'll progress at your own pace.
Will I be judged or criticised? Not at all. One of the things that makes Toastmasters special is the supportive atmosphere. Members receive constructive feedback designed to encourage growth, celebrate strengths and help improve one small step at a time.
Do I need any speaking experience? None whatsoever. Our members range from complete beginners to experienced presenters. Whether you're preparing for job interviews, business presentations, wedding speeches or simply want more confidence, you'll fit right in.
Is Toastmasters only for business people? Not at all! Our members come from all walks of life: teachers, tradies, retirees, students, small business owners, professionals and everything in between. Anyone aged 18 or over is welcome.
What if I make mistakes? You will... and so does everyone else! Toastmasters is one of the few places where making mistakes is seen as part of learning. Every experienced speaker started exactly where you are.
How long before I become a confident speaker? Everyone's journey is different, but most members notice improvements surprisingly quickly. With regular practice and supportive feedback, you'll likely become more comfortable speaking within just a few meetings.
Can I just come and have a look? Of course! In fact, we encourage it. Come along as our guest, meet some friendly people and see whether Jimboomba Toastmasters feels like the right fit for you. There's no obligation to join.
What if Toastmasters isn't for me? That's perfectly okay! You'll have spent an enjoyable evening meeting friendly people, you'll have seen something new, and you'll leave with a better understanding of what we do. But don't be surprised if you find yourself thinking, "I can't wait to come back."
